Group Ride Descriptions

Casual Road
Objective is to provide new riders and returning riders the opportunity to have a fun, healthy event. This ride is easy paced at 12-15 mph. The usual distance is 15-20 miles. All bike types are acceptable (mountain, city, hybrid or road). No unicycles.

Saturday Breakfast Ride - Road
This group usually rides 25 – 30 miles to a neighboring town for breakfast, then, depending on people's schedules, some ride back to Janesville, and others will go longer – pushing total miles for the ride to 70 – 100 miles I would guess that we average 15-16-17 mph right now, but that means that there will be faster stretches where the speeds are 18-25 MPH and slower stretches where we are moving 10-14 MPH. We will meet at Palmer Park the ride time changes depending upon sunrise and temperature, as the days warm up we meet as early as 6:30 AM. Join the JVC email list and receive announcements for that weeks start time. We try not to leave anybody stranded by themselves. So if your schedule allows, feel free to join us on Saturday AM.

Time Trial - Brick Workout or Ride
We start at Palmer Park and ride out to the course which is a 9 mile square. We ride the first lap together and then stop at the start/finish. Each rider goes off individually at 30 second to 1 minute intervals. The rider rides along as fast as possible for one lap of the 9 mile course. After finishing the course we ride back to the park and then for the multi-sport athletes we then run around the park of a distance of 5kms.

Touring Road
Participants are not so much concerned with speed as they are in riding maximum miles that sunlight will allow. The pace is a little faster than the “Casual” ride, but the mileage is significantly more. Average speed is 15-17 mph with a distance of 25-50 miles.

Tempo Road
The objective of this group is to do several minutes of fast steady riding. Participants will be riding 25-50 miles, with the pace varying from steady cruising to sitting up to allow recovery. You can expect this group to wait for slower riders. Riders in this group are expected to have some familiarity with pacelines and echelons.

Race - Road
Participants are racers and serious athletes. This groups rides from 25-50 miles. Pace in this group will vary from easy recovery to all out sprints. Riders will be involved in “King of the Hill" efforts, paceline intervals, timetrial efforts, race tactics and race simulations. Riders must have familiarity with pacelines and echelons

Mountain Bike
This group visits our local off-road trails. They welcome both new and experienced riders. They usually ride as long as daylight allows.
